We took the Chunnel under the English Channel into France and couldn’t resist visiting Amiens, the first town Evan ever lived in on his 2 year mission in France and Belgium as a 19 year old. It was such a treat to visit with Fanja, one of his good friends from all those years ago, as we checked out the cathedral and downtown area a bit! We wasted no time getting ourselves a crepe in one hand and a kebab with frites in the other!
Evan showed us his old apartment overlooking the cathedral and the random mannequin standing in the middle of the canal that mysteriously changes outfits depending on the occasion.
It was so sweet to witness him tapping into the memories of his time and life and experiences serving the people here almost 20 years ago. I know it’s always been important for him to bring his family back to walk the streets he walked and I think it did his soul some good to be there. Regardless of our current path or beliefs we will always remain so grateful for this experience in his life! I honestly felt a bit of a rush like I caught a glimpse of that young, charismatic Evan that I fell in love with right after that mission and it deepened the love I have for this good, good man of mine.
